Cathay Pacific Awards the Purchasing Agreement to Carrier Corp.
Evergreen® 23XRV Chiller Installation at Hong Kong's New Cargo Terminal

Hong Kong, December 20, 2010 –  Carrier Corp. was awarded a chiller purchasing contract by Cathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific Airways. Carrier Corp, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), is the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, improving the world around us through engineered innovation and environmental stewardship.

Carrier will supply three Evergreen® 23XRV variable speed screw chillers and two Aquaforce® 30XW water-cooled chillers, for a total cooling capacity of 1,732 tons for the new air cargo terminal of the Hong Kong International Airport. All chillers will employ the environmentally sound, non-ozone depleting refrigerant, HFC-134a while maximizing energy efficiency. The 23XRV can deliver efficiencies up to 40 percent better than the industry standard.

CPSL was awarded the franchise to invest in, design, construct and operate the new air cargo terminal under a 20-year agreement. The facility, scheduled to begin operations in early 2013, will occupy a site of around 10 hectares. The terminal will be one of the most advanced in the world to date and is being designed for an annual air cargo throughput of 2.6 million tons, which will help boost the efficiency and competitiveness of the Hong Kong air cargo hub.

“Energy efficiency and quality of products have always been our top considerations when selecting an air-conditioning systems supplier,” said Mr. Simon Siu, project manager – E&M of CPSL. “We are convinced Carrier is an excellent choice because of its expertise and the capabilities of its R&D Center and manufacturing facilities. With many successful installations of Carrier’s chillers in the U.S., Singapore and other Asian countries, we trust that the outstanding energy efficient performance of these chillers, particularly at part load condition, will bring the best environmental benefits to this project. In addition, we will positively consider using the 23XRV model for other chiller plant retrofits.”

“Carrier has long been focused on product development and leadership in energy efficient solutions for the buildings industry in Hong Kong,” said Francis Leung, managing director of Carrier Hong Kong. “Leveraging two decades of experience in environmental stewardship, we’re proud to offer CPSL breakthrough technology in efficiency and superior reliability with the unique design of the tri-rotor variable speed screw compressor used in the 23XRV model.”
